GH Foundation was established in 2021. Our registration number is 00NGO/R/2515.
GH Foundation operates in 18 regions across Tanzania, including Shinyanga, Tabora, Singida, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Ruvuma, Mwanza, Geita, Tanga, Pwani, Simiyu, Kagera, Manyara, Arusha, Morogoro, Iringa, Mara, and Dodoma. Our headquarters is located in Dar es Salaam.
Our Vision: To create a healthier and thriving society free from Non Communicable Diseases through comprehensive health promotion initiatives and ensuring all genders are treated with equal respect, dignity and opportunity.
Our Mission: Empowering individuals and communities to take control of Non Communicable Diseases through proper health mechanism and breaking barriers that hinder gender equality and social justice.
GH Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprising professionals from various sectors, including healthcare, gender equality, communications, education, legal, and business. The board provides strategic guidance and oversight to ensure the organization achieves its mission effectively and transparently. Day-to-day operations are managed by the Executive Director and the management team.
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are medical conditions or diseases that are not caused by infectious agents and are not transmissible from person to person. The main types of NCDs include:
These diseases are typically of long duration and slow progression, and they are the result of a combination of genetic, physiological, environmental, and behavioral factors.
We prioritize health promotion for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) due to their increasing prevalence and significant impact on global health. NCDs are responsible for the majority of deaths worldwide, with the burden disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries like Tanzania.
According to WHO, there are 41 million global deaths from NCDs each year, and this number is expected to rise to 52 million by 2030. Approximately 85% are 'premature' deaths between the ages of 30 to 70, occurring in low- and middle-income countries.
However, up to 80% of NCDs can be prevented through affordable interventions. By focusing on NCD prevention and control, we aim to reduce morbidity, mortality, and the socioeconomic burden associated with these diseases, ultimately contributing to improved public health outcomes and sustainable development.
GH Foundation provides a range of support for NCD prevention, management, and treatment:
