General Information

GH Foundation is a youth-led, impact-driven non-governmental organization dedicated to combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting gender equality. Founded in 2021, our organization works to ensure that vulnerable individuals receive the care and support they need while driving systemic change through education, advocacy, and direct interventions.

GH Foundation was established in 2021. Our registration number is 00NGO/R/2515.

GH Foundation operates in 18 regions across Tanzania, including Shinyanga, Tabora, Singida, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Ruvuma, Mwanza, Geita, Tanga, Pwani, Simiyu, Kagera, Manyara, Arusha, Morogoro, Iringa, Mara, and Dodoma. Our headquarters is located in Dar es Salaam.

Our Vision: To create a healthier and thriving society free from Non Communicable Diseases through comprehensive health promotion initiatives and ensuring all genders are treated with equal respect, dignity and opportunity.

Our Mission: Empowering individuals and communities to take control of Non Communicable Diseases through proper health mechanism and breaking barriers that hinder gender equality and social justice.

GH Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprising professionals from various sectors, including healthcare, gender equality, communications, education, legal, and business. The board provides strategic guidance and oversight to ensure the organization achieves its mission effectively and transparently. Day-to-day operations are managed by the Executive Director and the management team.

Health Promotion

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are medical conditions or diseases that are not caused by infectious agents and are not transmissible from person to person. The main types of NCDs include:

  • Cardiovascular diseases (like heart attacks and stroke)
  • Cancer
  • Chronic respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma)
  • Diabetes
  • Other conditions including mental health disorders, kidney diseases, and more

These diseases are typically of long duration and slow progression, and they are the result of a combination of genetic, physiological, environmental, and behavioral factors.

We prioritize health promotion for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) due to their increasing prevalence and significant impact on global health. NCDs are responsible for the majority of deaths worldwide, with the burden disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries like Tanzania.

According to WHO, there are 41 million global deaths from NCDs each year, and this number is expected to rise to 52 million by 2030. Approximately 85% are 'premature' deaths between the ages of 30 to 70, occurring in low- and middle-income countries.

However, up to 80% of NCDs can be prevented through affordable interventions. By focusing on NCD prevention and control, we aim to reduce morbidity, mortality, and the socioeconomic burden associated with these diseases, ultimately contributing to improved public health outcomes and sustainable development.

GH Foundation provides a range of support for NCD prevention, management, and treatment:

  • Awareness Campaigns: We conduct community outreach initiatives and media campaigns to raise awareness about NCD prevention and management.
  • Screening and Early Detection: We organize health screening events to detect NCDs at an early stage.
  • Financial Support for Treatment: We raise funds to assist NCD patients with medical expenses. To date, we have covered the full medical expenses of 89 NCD patients.
  • International Medical Care: For complex cases, we facilitate access to international medical care.
  • Advocacy: We advocate for improved NCD policies and increased budget allocation for NCD prevention and treatment.
  • School and Youth Programs: We engage young people through educational programs to promote healthy lifestyles from an early age.

If you or someone you know is living with an NCD and requires medical support, you can apply for assistance through our Medical Support Program. Here's how to proceed:

  2. Submit the form along with medical documentation detailing the diagnosis and recommended treatment.
  3. Include a statement of financial need.
  4. Submit the application package to our office or via email to support@ghf.or.tz.

Gender Equality

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) refers to harmful acts directed at an individual based on their gender. It is rooted in gender inequality, the abuse of power, and harmful norms. GBV can include:

  • Physical violence (such as slapping, hitting, kicking, and beating)
  • Sexual violence (including rape, sexual assault, and harassment)
  • Emotional or psychological violence (such as intimidation and threats)
  • Economic violence (like denying access to financial resources)
  • Harmful traditional practices (such as child marriage and female genital mutilation)

GBV can happen to anyone, but women and girls are disproportionately affected due to systemic gender inequalities and power imbalances in many societies.

GH Foundation provides comprehensive support to survivors of gender-based violence through several programs:

  • Legal Aid: We connect survivors with lawyers who provide free legal representation to help them access justice.
  • Psychosocial Support: Our team of counselors and psychologists offers free counseling services to help survivors recover emotionally from trauma.
  • Safe Housing: In some cases, we provide safe shelter for homeless widows and GBV survivors.
  • Economic Empowerment: We offer small grants and soft loans to help survivors start or expand income-generating activities and achieve financial independence.
  • Educational Support: For children affected by GBV, we provide scholarships and educational materials to ensure they can continue their education.
  • Skills Training: We organize vocational training programs to enhance the skills of GBV survivors, equipping them for self-reliance.

If you or someone you know is experiencing GBV and needs help, you can:

  1. Call our GBV Helpline at +255 752 581 983 (available 24/7).
  2. Visit our office in Dar es Salaam during working hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
  3. Email us at support@ghf.or.tz with "Urgent: GBV Case" in the subject line.
  4. Contact the nearest police station or hospital if it's an emergency situation.

All communications are treated with the utmost confidentiality. Our team will guide you through the available support options and help you access the services you need.

GH Foundation provides various forms of educational support, particularly for orphans and vulnerable children affected by GBV:

  • Full Scholarships: We provide comprehensive scholarships covering tuition, books, uniforms, and hostel fees for selected students.
  • Partial Support: We offer educational materials such as stationery, uniforms, and textbooks to support students' learning.
  • Vocational Training: For those who prefer practical skills, we offer training in crafts like weaving, tailoring, cake baking, batik design, carpentry, and other vocational skills.
  • Mentorship Programs: We connect students with mentors who provide guidance and support throughout their educational journey.
  • School-based Programs: We work with schools to implement programs that promote gender equality and prevent GBV among students.

To apply for educational support, please contact our Education Coordinator at education@ghf.or.tz or visit our office for more information.

GH Foundation recognizes the intricate connections between gender equality and health outcomes. We integrate both focus areas in several ways:

  • Gender-Sensitive Health Programs: We design health interventions that address the unique needs and challenges faced by people of different genders.
  • Training Healthcare Providers: We train healthcare providers in gender-sensitive and trauma-informed care to better serve patients, especially those affected by GBV.
  • Addressing GBV as a Health Issue: We recognize the health consequences of GBV and work to prevent it while supporting survivors with appropriate healthcare.
  • Economic Empowerment for Better Health: By supporting economic independence, particularly for women, we enable better access to healthcare and improved health outcomes.
  • Advocating for Gender-Responsive Health Policies: We work with policymakers to ensure health policies consider gender dimensions and address disparities.

This integrated approach enables us to address the root causes of health disparities and create more effective, sustainable solutions.
